Two Updates that Remove Manual Work

Automatic sales tax lookup is here, and task gating just got smarter.

01 / AUTOMATIC VARIABLE SALES TAX IS HERE

If you're in a state where sales tax varies by location and you're required to charge the right rate based on the listing address, this one's for you. Spiro can now look up the correct sales tax rate automatically and charge it on orders — no rate tables to maintain, no checking jurisdictions by hand.

Setup takes about a minute: go to Settings → Invoicing → Sales Taxes. If you already have a flat rate set up for that state, remove it first, then add the state back with Automatic Tax Lookup selected. Click save, and that's literally all you need to do. From then on, Spiro determines the rate from the listing address automatically when the agent places the order.

Prefer to stay on a flat rate? Nothing changes for you. And if you want manual control, there's also a Custom ZIP option — your own rates for specific ZIP codes, with a standard rate for everything else in the state.

02 / TASKS THAT FEEL STUCK? FIXED

We've heard from many of you that the task setup can feel stuck — a task you're ready to work on sits at Pending, waiting on something unrelated. The classic example: photos come back from editing quickly, but QC Photos can't start because a premium video edit in the same sequence still has two days to go. Waiting on video to look at photos doesn't make any sense.

There's a new setting that removes those gates. Go to Settings → Task Builder, click the settings gear in the upper right, and toggle on Shared Service Job Gating. When it's on, Job tasks only wait on earlier tasks in the same service — QC Photos waits on photo editing, not video editing.

Two things after you toggle it on: click the refresh orders button to push the new logic to orders already placed. And orders from the last day or two may still show a few stuck tasks even after refreshing — give it a day or two and new orders will flow through cleanly.
