If you are receiving a Error 400 when trying to access a Dropbox shared folder your Dropbox account has gone over the limit of allowed shared folders. Dropbox allows 1500 folders to be shared. Once you cross this limit Spiro will no longer be able to share folders.
Dropbox has an auto clean up process in place where we will automatically un-share folders to keep the number of shared folders to a minimum. If you are seeing this error you are sharing folders manually.
How to Un-share Folders
Here is the process on how to see your shared Dropbox folders and un-share them.
Let this page load for about 5-10 minutes pending how many share you have. This will allow Dropbox to show all shared folders (the searching can take a bit of time, at least it did on our Dropbox account)
To un-share a folder click the 3 dots and select un-share
Every folder you un-share will put a folder back into your quota of available to share folders
Dropbox take several hours to register newly allocated shared folder space
The Best Method: Automatic Sharing via Spiro
For job-related folders, the best practice is to let Spiro handle the sharing automatically. Simply assign a task on a job to any user, and Spiro will automatically grant them access to the corresponding Dropbox folder.
Automatic Removal: Spiro will also automatically remove their access when the task is complete.
Quota Management: This process helps you stay under your Dropbox share quota without manual effort.
Manual Sharing: What to Avoid
If you need to share folders for reasons outside of a Spiro task, it's crucial to understand how Dropbox's sharing limits work.
Avoid Sharing Top-Level Folders: Do not share a main folder (like a "2025" archive) that contains numerous subfolders.
How Quotas Are Calculated: Dropbox counts every individual folder and subfolder within a shared directory as a unique share.
Example: If you share a "2025" folder that holds 30 subfolders, and each of those contains 5 more folders, you will use 150 shares from your 1,500-share quota.
To conserve your quota, always share the most specific folder possible rather than a high-level parent folder.
