Overview
Service areas set the trip fee added to an Order based on where the listing is. There are three ways to price a trip fee:
Distance ranges (Radius areas): a price for each range of miles, such as 26–39 miles.
Per mile (Radius areas): a rate multiplied by the driving distance.
One flat price (Custom Shape areas): one price for any listing inside the shape.
Spiro uses the actual driving distance from the service area’s center pin to the listing. The circles on the map are only a visual guide.

How to set trip fees by distance
Go to Settings → Service Areas.
Click the pencil next to a Radius service area, or click + Service Areas to create one.
Scroll to Service Area Settings and open the Pricing tab.
Set Trip Fee Charge Type to Default.
For each range, enter From (miles), To (miles), and Display Price. Click + to add a range, or the trash icon to delete one.
Click Save Changes.
Spiro rounds the driving distance to the nearest whole mile before choosing a range, so ranges like 0–25 and 26–39 leave no gaps. A 25.6-mile drive counts as 26 miles.
When you change a To value, the next range’s From updates automatically to the next whole number.
How to charge trip fees per mile
Go to Settings → Service Areas and click the pencil next to a Radius service area.
In Service Area Settings → Pricing, set Trip Fee Charge Type to Per Mile/Kilometer.
Enter the Maximum Distance you travel. Listings farther than this aren’t covered by this area.
Enter the Display Price (per miles).
Click Save Changes.
The rate is multiplied by the full driving distance. For example, at $2 per mile, a 12-mile drive is a $24 trip fee. Accounts set to kilometers charge per kilometer.
How to set a trip fee for a custom shape area
Custom Shape areas have one price for any listing inside the shape. They don’t have ranges or per-mile pricing.
Go to Settings → Service Areas and click the pencil next to a Custom Shape service area.
In Service Area Settings → Pricing, enter the Display Price.
Click Save Changes.
Understanding Advanced Pricing
Turn on Advanced Pricing to control who is billed for the trip fee. With it off, the Agent is billed the Display Price.
Display Price: The trip fee the client sees when ordering. It’s used for the order total but isn’t billed by itself.
Agent Pays: The amount billed to the Agent. This is the Trip Fee line the client sees on the order summary.
Company Pays: The amount billed to the Agent’s Company.
Tenant Charge: Your business’s share, for your own reference. It isn’t used on any invoice, payout, or report.
Photographer Charge: The amount added to the photographer’s pay. This only applies to accounts set to Photographer Based. See Understanding service area settings.
Custom Shape areas show only Display Price, Agent Pays, and Company Pays.
In Per Mile/Kilometer, the same fields appear as Agent Price (per miles), Company Price (per miles), Tenant Charge (per miles), and Photographer Charge (per miles).
Spiro doesn’t check that these amounts add up. Set Display Price equal to Agent Pays plus Company Pays. Otherwise the client sees a total that doesn’t match the Trip Fee line.
Understanding service area settings
To open these settings, go to Settings → Service Areas and click Settings at the top right. They apply to all of your service areas.
Trip Fee Setting
Region Based (Default): You create service areas and assign photographers to each region. Photographer Charge isn’t used. To pay photographers for travel, use the service area’s Photographer Fees tab, your mileage settings, or a custom fee on the job.
Photographer Based: Each photographer has their own service area. Spiro prices the trip fee from the selected photographer’s area and adds the Photographer Charge to their pay on top of their normal rate. If no photographer is selected, no trip fee is charged.
Hide Initial Trip Fee Popup: Turn on to stop the pop-up telling clients a trip fee applies when they enter an address. The trip fee still shows on the order summary. This is always on for Photographer Based accounts.
Enable Out of Service Area Jobs:
On: clients outside all of your service areas can still order. They see your message, and no trip fee is added.
Off: they see your message and can’t continue.
Enter the message in Message to display if an out of service area job is being submitted.
How to set different trip fees on one Order Page
Every Order Page uses all of your active service areas. To charge different trip fees on one Order Page, add a price for that page only.
You don’t need to add or assign service areas to an Order Page. Clicking + and Save Changes on a range, even without changing the price, sets a fixed price for that page. Later changes to the service area won’t apply to that range until you remove it with the trash icon.
Go to Shopping Cart → Order Pages and open the Order Page.
Click Trip Fees at the top right.
Select a service area.
Click + next to a range. The row fills in with the service area’s prices.
Edit the Display Price, Agent Pays, or Company Pays.
Click Save Changes.
To go back to the service area’s prices, click the trash icon on that row. Ranges without a page price use the service area’s prices, including any later changes you make there.
If your account is set to Photographer Based, contact Support before adding Order Page trip fees.
Examples
Ranges: 0–25 miles is $0, 26–39 miles is $10, and 40–49 miles is $20.
A 25.4-mile drive counts as 25 miles, so there’s no trip fee.
A 39.6-mile drive counts as 40 miles, so the trip fee is $20.
A 52-mile drive matches no range in this area. Spiro checks your other service areas. If none cover the listing, there’s no trip fee and the out of service area message shows.
Per mile: $2 per mile with a Maximum Distance of 30. A 12-mile drive is $24. A 35-mile drive isn’t covered by this area.
Split billing (Advanced Pricing): Display Price $20, Agent Pays $15, Company Pays $5. The Agent’s invoice shows a $15 trip fee and the Company’s invoice shows $5.
Troubleshooting trip fees
A listing inside the map circle shows as outside the service area
Spiro uses driving distance, not the straight line on the map. A listing inside the circle can be a longer drive. Check that your last range’s To value, or your Maximum Distance, covers the drive.
The client sees a total that doesn’t match the Trip Fee line
Display Price and Agent Pays are different. Set Display Price to equal Agent Pays plus Company Pays.
The photographer didn’t receive the Photographer Charge
Photographer Charge only applies when Trip Fee Setting is Photographer Based. On Region Based accounts, use the Photographer Fees tab or a custom fee instead.
Photographer Based: a listing between two ranges gets no trip fee
Photographer Based accounts don’t round the driving distance, so a 39.6-mile drive falls between 26–39 and 40–49. Let neighboring ranges share an end number, such as 26–39 and 39–49:
Enter every To value first.
Then change each From to match the previous range’s To.
Click Save Changes.
If you edit a To value later, the next From resets, so check it again before saving.
Notes
If a listing is covered by more than one service area, Radius areas are used before Custom Shape areas. Among Radius areas, the closest area with a matching range is used. Among Custom Shape areas, the lowest price is used.
The trip fee appears as its own Trip Fee line on Agent and Company invoices and is taxed like the rest of the Order.
Deleting or rearranging ranges in a service area also removes any Order Page prices attached to those ranges.
